Shanghai Engineering Center for Microsatellites (SECM) became one of the five pilot spots for satellite innovation research thanks to the Pioneer Initiative of CAS, which was launched in July, 2014. On August 22, 2017, Chinese Academy of Sciences officially authorized the foundation of Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of CAS (IAMCAS). On September 26, 2017, the opening ceremony of IAMCAS was celebrated. Born for microsatellite research, IAMCAS has sent many satellites into the space with no failure, including the new-generation Beidou navigation satellite, Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) and the companion microsatellite for Shenzhou spacecraft. IAMCAS has become the driving force in Chinese scientific satellite development, also a leader in military and commercial satellites.
